The new issue of Prick of the Spindle, Vol. 5.1, is live & online. As incoming fiction editor, I had a little to do with this issue.
This is especially fun: Writer Round-Up A Collective Interview Wherein Writers We Like Discuss Topics Related to the Craft. Including the following: Matt Bell, Paula Bomer, Steve Himmer, Lee Papa, Ethel Rohan, D. Harlan Wilson, & Joseph Young. A little magical realism? "Jamie's Dragon" is available at The Fabulist.
"Jamie saved up her babysitting money for the tattoo. It hadn’t taken long, her dad liberal with his guilt money. He paid her well to handle his responsibilities — Jamie’s twin half-brothers — while he wined and dined his new wife..." My third piece there since the new year -- I've really enjoyed working with Josh Wilson, the editor. Thanks, Josh. From Chris Heavener, editor of Annalemma Magazine:
"...Fragmentation + Other Stories, put together by my Orlando homies Jana Waring and Ryan Rivas under their new imprint Burrow Press. I haven’t read the whole thing yet, just blasted through a few that caught my eye, most notably the flash piece that the book takes its name from by Peg Alford Pursell. She knows the key to a good flash piece is to illustrate those emotions we have that spark up real quick and fade just as fast." (My emphasis.) Sweet! A nice bit of press about the just-published anthology from Burrow Press:
"Fragmentation, by Peg Alford Pursell, the first story and the book's namesake, is a flash-fiction triumph ...The concepts behind Fragmentation became the story of the entire book...The story of the starfish, torn apart but growing into new iterations of a whole, rang true for Waring and Rivas." Copies of the book are available from Burrow Press. It's a beautiful book I'm proud to be part of. Really pleased to have "A Morning on the Beach" accepted at Her Royal Majesty, a beautiful quarterly lit journal published out of Halifax, Nova Scotia. Editor Harriet Alida Lye is doing great work. The story, under 350 words, is not bucolic, as its title might suggest.
