For the past three weeks I've been running a crowdsourcing campaign for WTAW Press and the expansion of the Why There Are Words reading series to five other major US cities, and doing this has been an illuminating experience. The still above is part of a video put together by the talented Ryan Shiver, and if you need video for any project, I recommend contacting Ryan. Go to the "Why Ask Why?" campaign website and see what I mean. And while you're there, show WTAW a little love, please!
As of today, with just 9 days remaining, the campaign has raised $11,658 from 159 backers, 78% of our $15,000. I'm so grateful to our supporters. I've learned so much through this experience, and I'd be happy to share that information with anyone who's considering running a crowdsourcing fundraiser. The biggest take-away? People are a puzzlement. As if we writers ever truly forget that fount. I've been surprised and moved beyond measure by generosity that I could never have anticipated. And I've been baffled by odd and unpredictable responses too, none of which seem publishable in this forum. Please check out the project and lend your support! You can play a role in making sure that the books that filter to your nightstand aren't those that one of the big 5 have decided are what you should read, based on the corporate bottom line. With my gratitude in advance!
